Asterisk cmd SayUnixTime

$

0

Synopsis

Says a date and/or time to the caller.

Syntax

SayUnixTime(unixtime,timezone,format)

Description

Uses some of the sound files stored in /var/lib/asterisk/sounds to construct a phrase saying the specified date and/or time in the specified format.

unixtime is the date/time to say, represented as a standard unix timestamp (number of seconds since 1 Jan 1970). If this parameter is omitted, the default value is the current date/time.

timezone specifies the timezone that the unixtime is in. If this parameter is omitted, the default value is the time zone of the computer. It sould be specified as a unix timezone (see your /usr/share/zoneinfo directory for a list of timezones known to your computer), for example, "Pacific/Samoa".

format is a string specifying in what way to say the date/time. It uses a format based on the strftime(3) unix system call, if you're familiar with that. If omitted, the default value is:

ABdY \'digits/at\' IMp

This would result in a phrase like this: "Monday January twenty first 2003 at seven fifty two p m". Note that the 'digits/at' part refers to the sound /var/lib/asterisk/sounds/digits/at.gsm, i.e. it is a relative pathname to a sound file.

SayUnixTime is Multi-Language-compliant. It will say the date/time in the language set by the channel or overriden with the SetLanguage command, if the localized sound files for that language are installed.

Format Codes

\'filename\' (1.4) filename (1.6+)filename of a soundfileIn Asterisk version 1.4 backslash and single ticks (\') around the filename are required (but not in version 1.6).
A or aDay of weekSaturday, Sunday, ..., Friday
B or b or hMonth nameJanuary, February, ..., December
d or enumeric day of monthfirst, second, ..., thirty-first
YYear
I(capital eye) or l(lower ell)Hour, 12 hour clockone, two, three, ..., twelve
HHour, 24 hour clock?, oh one, oh two, ..., oh nine, ten, eleven, ..., twenty-three

STRFTIME

Formats the datetime

Synopsis

STRFTIME([<epoch>][,[<timezone>][,<format>]])

Description

Formats the time specified by <epoch>, localized to <timezone>. The format comes directly from the underlying C function strftime(3). If <epoch> is not specified, defaults to the current time. <timezone> likewise defaults to the timezone on the host computer. A list of possible timezones may be obtained from the directory listing in /usr/share/zoneinfo. The default format is %c.

This example sets the variable CallTime to the correct local time string in the format Unix utilities like `touch` want, i.e. YYYYMMDDhhmm:

exten => s,n,set(CallTime=${STRFTIME(${EPOCH},GMT+8,%C%y%m%d%H%M)})

Format String

This will vary from distribution to distribution, as their are different implementations of strftime. If these values do not work correctly on your system, please consult the man page for your implementation of strftime (you can do this by running `man 3 strftime` from your server's command line).

The following values are based on an <epoch> value of 1185130650 (obtained via the ${EPOCH} variable) at -0400 or Eastern Daylight Time (EDT). The output of the Unix `date` command is:

[root@asterisk]# date
Sun Jul 22 14:57:30 EDT 2007

These format strings are from the CentOS 5.0 man page for strftime(3):

Format String Description Example
%aThe abbreviated weekday name according to the current locale.Sun
%AThe full weekday name according to the current locale.Sunday
%bThe abbreviated month name according to the current locale.Jul
%BThe full month name according to the current locale.July
%cThe preferred date and time representation for the current locale.Sun Jul 22 14:57:30 2007
%CThe century number (year/100) as a 2-digit integer.20
%dThe day of the month as a decimal number (range 01 to 31).22
%DEquivalent to %m/%d/%y. (Yecch — for Americans only. Americans should note that in other countries %d/%m/%y is rather common. This means that in international context this format is ambiguous and should not be used.)07/22/07
%eLike %d, the day of the month as a decimal number, but a leading zero is replaced by a space.22
%FEquivalent to %Y-%m-%d (the ISO 8601 date format).2007-07-22
%GThe ISO 8601 year with century as a decimal number. The 4-digit year corresponding to the ISO week number (see %V). This has the same format and value as %y, except that if the ISO week number belongs to the previous or next year, that year is used instead.2007
%gLike %G, but without century, i.e., with a 2-digit year (00-99).07
%hEquivalent to %b.Jul
%HThe hour as a decimal number using a 24-hour clock (range 00 to 23). ...

Asterisk func strptime

$
0
0

Synopsis:

Returns the epoch of the arbitrary date/time string structured as described in the format.

Description:

STRPTIME(<datetime>|<timezone>|<format>)
This is useful for converting a date into an EPOCH time, possibly to pass to an application like SayUnixTime or to calculate the difference between two date strings.

Notes

  • *CLI> show function STRPTIME

Return value

Returns the string representing the unix time in seconds since the beginning of the epoch (Jan 1st, 1970)

Example

exten => s,1,Set(foo=${STRPTIME(2006-03-01 07:30:35|America/Chicago|%Y-%m-%d %H:%M:%S)}
should set foo to the value "1141219835"

Business PBX

$

PBX systems were designed for businesses. The private branch exchange system serves organizations, offices, and businesses by establishing an internal network of telephones. Business PBX is a redundant term in this sense, though today residential VoIP services may be based on PBX systems.

In the 1990s innovations led to new PBX technology, namely VoIP and hosted PBX. VoIP and hosted PBX allowed smaller businesses to take advantage of complex PBX functions and features that were not practical before. In the past, PBX systems were incredibly complicated and expensive to setup and maintain, making it difficult for small businesses to use.

There are other business telecommunications systems such as Centrex, but business PBX systems have become versatile enough to offer equal or greater features for similar cost.

Small Businesses

Business PBX is available for SOHO, SMB, etc. Business PBX providers have a variety of options and scalable systems.

Hosted PBX

Hosted business PBX is housed off-site with the provider. No hardware beyond phones and an Internet router are required. A hosted PBX is charged per user, which is cheaper for smaller businesses than installing expensive equipment to run a PBX on-site.

Virtual PBX

Virtual PBX for business is a stripped down hosted PBX, and is usually designed for very small enterprises. Outbound calling is not usually included.

Larger Businesses

IP PBX

On-premises IP PBX is useful for large businesses, where paying for each user is impractical. Large business PBX systems need far more maintenance, but an IP PBX can save money by using software to replace PSTN equipment. An alternative is managed PBX, which is still on-site but maintained by the service provider.

VOIP and VPN

Surprisingly, using VOIP across an SSL-based VPN can actually improve the call quality (as measured by MOS scores). The improvement seems to be due to encapsulating the UDP VOIP packets ( SIP and RTP ) in TCP/IP. NB Datagram-based VPNs, such as IPSec's ESP are still bad.

According to a study by Sirrix VPN has no negative influence on latency, jitter and packet loss; in the case of the g7.11 codec and compressed VPN it is even possible to gain 10% bandwidth compared to non-VPN traffic. Apart from that, different common VPN solutions have big difference on the available throughput, which is due to the rather small packet sizes and greatly increased overhead:

With enabling authentication, encryption, HMAC, anti-replay attack, and initialization vector, and use small RTP size for Codec, the vpn overhead is high:
g723 with 30ms RTP size and using VPN tunneling: approx. 85% overhead;
g729a with 20ms RTP size and using VPN tunneling: approx. 80% overhead;

But when making some adjustments on the encryption/authentication settings and double the RTP size, the overhead can go down to about 20%-30%, which is affordable for most of cases.

Comparing to SRTP as encryption method for VoIP: approx. 5% additional overhead.
