$

0
Obihai is a California-based voice over internet company that designs and produces Analog Telephone Adapters (ATA). Analog telephone adapters convert regular landline phones into VoIP phones. People and businesses can make cheap phone calls when the devices connect to a VoIP provider.

To take it a step further, when Google Voice connects to Obihai, there is no cost to make or receive calls from within the U.S. and Canada. Many people making the switch from using traditional phone lines to making calls over the internet. Obihai and Google Voice makes this a possibility.

Want to learn more? Keep reading to find out how you can eliminate your phone bill.

How Do Obihai ATAs Work?

Obihai is the manufacturer of Analog Telephone Adapters (ATA). ATAs are devices that take your analog telephone, converts your voice into digital form and transmits it over your internet connection. This technology is called Voice over IP, or VoIP. Since the call is transmitted over the internet, the call is much cheaper than using a traditional phone service. Figure 1 is an example of the typical Obihai setup.

The figure 2 below shows how the Obihai device is set up in your home. The device is small, less than 3 inches long on each side. The box has 4 connections: phone, USB, internet, and power.

Google Voice

Why is Google Voice required? Obihai ATA is only the software and hardware to make calls using your current telephone. The ATA does not route phone calls to the cell phones, other VoIP phones, or PSTN. A VoIP service provider is necessary to route the phone calls.

The Obihai ATA is compatible with the majority of VoIP providers. However, Google Voice is a free service for calls inside Canada and the U.S. The service provides International calls at a lower price. Google Voice was created as a softphone that lets Google users make free telephone calls from their computer. Obihai realized that they could create something that could utilize this technology and found a way to let users make phone calls using their own analog telephones.

Free Phone Calls Using Google Voice and Obihai - Is There a Catch?

No, there isn't a catch. However, you need to purchase Obihai's ATA device. The device costs around $40 for the basic model. The only cost associated with the ATA device is the initial purchase price. Google Voice is free to use for calls made in Canada and the U.S.

Before you decide to use Obihai, there are a few things you should know:

1. Google does not offer any type of official tech support for this product. Also, Google can eliminate this service without notice. At one point, Google almost terminated the service before deciding to keep it as a part of their Google Hangout service.

2. Other VoIP providers have more features than Google Voice.

3. If you need any type of support, Google does not offer any form of assistance. Hopefully, you can get some type of assistance from this guide.

4. Choose your number wisely. If you are looking for a new telephone and want the number to have a particular area code, you have a problem. There is not a large selection of phone numbers. If you want to port an existing number into Google Voice, you can only port mobile phone numbers. Please be aware of the fact that porting a phone number comes with a $20 fee. Currently, Google Voice does not support the porting of landlines. Porting your Google Voice number out of Google will cost you $3. The costs reported are the costs associated with these services at the time of this writing.

5. E911 is not supported by Google Voice. However, Obihai has found a way around this issue. If you use Anveo, you can have access to E911 services. The Anveo service costs $15 a year.

How to Set Up Google Voice and Obihai

Setting up your OBI device and Google Voice is fairly easy to do, but you do need to make sure you follow a few steps. The first step involves the hardware set up. The only connections that require setup are the power to the OBI device, connection to the analog phone, and an ethernet cable that goes to the router. You do not need a connection for the USB, although this could be useful if you wish to have wifi. A separate OBIWiFi adapter is necessary to have wifi capabilities. You configuration may look similar to the configuration seen in Figure 6.

Google has been consistently expanding for years, and that expansion has taken it into the business world. The company is undoubtedly most well-known for its search engine, and it also has productivity tools available online, a flexible cloud storage solution and its popular email service. But it has also developed its own voice over internet protocol (VoIP) phone service with Google Voice, which provides calling, texting, the option to choose a local phone number, email to voicemail and much more. People can use Google Voice for calling and messaging over both their computers or their smartphones. Best of all, Google Voice is available free of charge. This makes it an excellent option for businesses that need an extra line to help with a high call volume, communicate with clients via text message, or make and receive calls from a local phone number obtained through Google Voice.

Google Voice is a fantastic service, but it's by no means perfect, as some users have experienced reliability issues. For small businesses and startups that need to keep their expenses to a minimum, Google Voice can be ideal for getting a business phone number or setting up a second line. It's not right for every business, though, as there are situations where it won't be the most professional and effective option. Although providers of business VoIP or hosted private branch exchange (PBX) systems can offer business phone service at a far lower price than a traditional phone company, both types of service can still be costly. Plus, these systems don't always come with a local phone number, and it may cost extra to get additional phone numbers.

When it comes to free phone service options, Google Voice is about as good as it gets. But there are some very inexpensive alternatives that allow a business to get a local phone number, send and receive calls and messages, and take advantage of all the other features one could get through Google Voice without breaking the bank.

Grasshopper

Even though Grasshopper has a slightly higher price tag than some of the options on this list, it's well worth it, because it gives businesses a total phone system and all kinds of helpful features. The user can decide if they want to port over a phone number or get a new one, and that new number can be local, toll free or a vanity number. With 800 numbers getting gradually phased out, Grasshopper allows users to get something more modern with an 844-series number.

Grasshopper includes a mobile app with several great features of its own. Like Google Voice, Grasshopper can transcribe voicemails and send them to the user's email. It allows the user to set up their own mobile fax signature and email a fax as a PDF. There's an auto attendant feature and an option to set up custom greetings. Grasshopper also has full location flexibility, as the user can add others from any location and give them local phone number extensions.

A basic plan through Grasshopper is $12 per month and 6 cents per minute. Its Ramp plan, which includes one number with 500 minutes, is $24 per month. For two numbers with 2,000 minutes, there's the Grow plan for $49 per month.

Grasshopper works very well for businesses that need a cloud-based phone system with a wide range of features. It's also a great choice for a business that wants a local phone number and a memorable vanity number.

Telzio

Telzio offers a cloud-based business phone service with plenty of features at a low price. It allows the user to pay as they go, and plan prices start at just $1 per month. That plan includes unlimited call flows, extensions and SIP accounts. The calling rate is $0.119 per minute on inbound calls and $0.168 per minute on outbound calls, although the user has the option of going with a plan instead.

The unlimited extensions are beneficial for businesses with large teams, because everyone can get their own personal extension through Telzio. Or the user could set up extensions by department or location depending on what works best for the business. Telzio can forward calls to a mobile device or an IP phone. It also offers an online control panel, IVR menus, free recording of calls and the ability to set certain call hours. If the user needs a fax number or a toll-free number, those are just $5 per month. Users that want to purchase a package of minutes can get Telzio's Pro plan, which provides 1,000 minutes and has a monthly fee of $29.

If a business is looking for a system that can deliver plenty of extensions, Telzio fits the bill and includes plenty of other great features on top of that. It's also a cost-effective option for a second business phone line because of its low cost. ...

VoIP and VoIP Service Providers

What is VoIP?

VoIP is the acronym for Voice over Internet Protocol. To put it in absolutely simple terms, VoIP could be defined as the technology that helps you to make phone calls over the internet. Since the calls would basically be measured in bits and not in minutes, VoIP rates are much cheaper.

What makes VoIP More Cost Effective?

One of the biggest advantages of using VoIP is that you don’t need a lot of specific hardware to use VoIP. This could be compared to the analog mobile network, where you need to get a lot of specialized equipment. This reduces the cost of setting up the system. The cost of installation is also less compared to an analog telephone system. Some of the other things that make VoIP more cost-effective are.

More Than Just Computers

When people think of VoIP, they generally think of computers due to the popularity of the numerous free communication services like FaceTime and Skype, but this is truly just one aspect of what VoIP can truly offer. ...

VirtualPBX vs Vonage

$

Vonage and VirtualPBX are among the first VoIP service providers having started out in the business in 1997. Vonage has established itself as a household name in the residential market due to its affordable international call rates. It has gone further by taking up the small to medium-sized business (SMB) market with its special Vonage Business Service package targeting the SMBs. The decision to venture into the highly competitive SMB space came with the necessity to shift their business focus, particularly when moving from VoIP service to IP PBX.

Read Vonage Reviews

Nevertheless, Vonage is adding onto a solid foundation based on their instituted international and residential VoIP network. The move to provide the more complex SMBs with IP PBX services was a logical development although the markets are different. VirtualPBX were, on the other hand, the pioneers in providing the hosted IP PBX services starting back in the late 90s. For this reason, VirtualPBX was able to provide the roadmap to how the delivery of the hosted IP PBX service to small to medium-sized businesses was to be done. They were largely successful in doing this.

VirtualPBX based their initial business model on offering the features and functions of a full PBX system. A full PBX system is usually beyond the means of most small to medium-sized businesses. They were able to achieve this by taking advantage of the growing use of the Internet as well as the emerging technology.

VirtualPBX were able to offer IP PBX services that would have otherwise been unaffordable for small to medium-sized business because of the ability to host IP PBX service over the Internet. At that time, it was quite expensive for any company to own a PBX. There were also additional operational and maintenance costs, which were prohibitive to the small to medium-sized businesses. VirtualPBX was able to eliminate many of these operational costs by offering a hosted Internet service long before the concept of cloud computing came into existence; consequently, it made IP PBX an affordable telephone solution.

The cloud-based (hosted) IP PBX market has become very competitive as new entrants get into the business and take up a significant portion of the market share.

A VirtualPBX representative provided this quote regarding VirtualPBX and the enterprise segment: "I want to share how we've absolutely made the effort in 2017 and beyond to cater to larger enterprises. For starters, we've recently released SIP Trunking under the Dash umbrella to accommodate enterprises who still depend on on-site PBX systems – a feat that was never accomplished with Office Plans. Dash is growing exponentially. Initially, it had more traction with SMBs (as evidenced by taking over Anywhere Plans) but now more enterprise-centric features are being added constantly – like SIP Trunking and Salesforce CRM Integration, and more are on the horizon – like WebRTC, ACD Queues, and Webhooks"

With their vast experience in offering residential VoIP services, Vonage has also scaled up to take on the small to medium-sized business market. They have been able to succeed by taking advantage of their international VoIP network coverage as well as their vast experience. However, they still maintain their focus on the SMB and residential markets. By maintaining this focus, they set themselves up as direct competitors to VirtualPBX. So, which is the better of the two?

How the Two Services Compare

Vonage stands out by taking the step to venture into new grounds in the form of IP PBX market from a successful international and residential calling service. Their success in the new grounds can be owed to their vast experience in the market and have an established international VoIP service network offering some of the most affordable long-distance call rates. Nevertheless, the features and functionality needed by residential customers are different from those needed by small to medium-sized businesses. Therefore, it is important to consider just how much Vonage has evolved regarding its technology. ...

BULK SMS

0
Bulk SMS, also known as bulk messaging or bulk text messaging is the act of disseminating SMS messages in large numbers so they are able to be delivered to various mobile phone terminals. This form of messaging is typically utilized by consumer brands, banks, enterprises and media companies. The messages are generally used for mobile marketing, enterprise and entertainment. However, banks often use them for fraud control. For example, if criminals are circulating a fake email that is asking people who have accounts at a certain bank to provide their social security numbers or other confidential information, these text messages can alert people to the scam so they do not fall victim to it. Bulk messaging is often utilized for reminders and alerts. However, it is more frequently used to send communications and information between customers and staff of various companies. Bulk messaging enables the delivery of SMS messages to large numbers of mobile phones that are located all around the world.

Bulk messaging software

In order to receive and send bulk messages, software is needed. There are many types of software packages specifically designed for this task that are available. These packages give their users the ability to send messages to as many phone numbers as they want. There are many different ways in which these phone numbers can be managed.

The vast majority of software applications that are designed to be used with SMS enable the user to upload mobile phone number lists with the use of a CSV or TXT file. Systems that are more advanced are capable of automatically deleting any numbers that are repeated. There are also systems that can be programed to validate all of the mobile phone numbers before the messages are sent to them.

Enhanced software features are also currently available that allow users to schedule messages to be delivered at certain days and/or times. Bulk messages are also able to be sent on mobile networks that are international or national, assuming that the provider of the bulk messaging software sends internationally.

Bulk messaging portal

Bulk messaging features can be added to websites through the use of this specific online script. Unlimited mobile phone numbers can be added to the list of numbers to send messages to. There are a wide variety of ways that can be used to manage these numbers.

Bulk messaging API

The majority of services that handle bulk messaging use the API's (Application Programming Interface) listed below. These enable the addition of functionality to programs by their programmers:

  • Email
  • HTTP
  • SMPP (Short Message Peer to Peer)
  • FTP (File Transfer Protocol)

Immediate benefits of using bulk SMS messaging

When a particular business is not doing well financially, they need to utilize various tools that can help them gain a competitive advantage in their specific industry. One of the main reasons that bulk SMS is so popular is its ability to lower operational costs while also generating revenue at the same time. Bulk SMS might be the only medium that is able to show a return on investment that is able to be measured. Wholesale SMS messaging is targeted, which makes it extremely effective at getting people to respond and generate revenue.

Reduces operational costs

Bulk SMS message transmission is more effective than email and less expensive than voice calls. There are thousands of businesses located all around the globe that utilize wholesale SMS as a way to communicate with their suppliers, employees and customers. There is a significant cost savings as a result of time being saved because actual voice calls to suppliers, employees and customers do not need to be made. A single message can instantly be sent to many people at the same time, as long as the person is located in an area with mobile coverage. The ability to disseminate information so quickly to a large target audience reduces communication costs while also generating revenue if used for marketing purposes.

Allows customers to be accessed easily

More people have mobile phones than have access to email or landline phones. Every mobile phone supports the use of text messaging. All mobile phone users are comfortable using this technology because it is simple and easy to understand. This makes wholesale SMS the perfect medium to use for communication with customers. There are also no demographical or geographical restrictions. ...

VoIP Wholesale

Wholesale VoIP Market:

There is no doubt today that VoIP is taking over the telecom market, and every month increases penetration into services and industries. Competitive carriers are looking at the numerous ways to make money from this exploding technology, but there's a lingering question as to whether it is profitable to deliver VoIP in a wholesale model? Their customers, typically Service Providers, are looking for their ‘competitive advantage' into this ‘lowest price' race, leveraging within three key alternatives for packet telephony : “build” , “buy” or “rent”. Business aspect, there’s no need to invest tens of millions of dollars in wholesale VoIP to join in. Many Telecom Companies have done the work for you. They offer a complete, turnkey VoIP business service and equipment. Now you can start wholesale VoIP business with virtually no investment and yet reap great dividends.

Wholesale VoIP Resellers:

In today’s world, Service providers seeking to deliver VoIP to as wide a customer base as possible may find that becoming a wholesale VoIP reseller is the way to go. Wholesale VoIP may be sold to both other service providers and to enterprises or residential customers.

Reselling IP telephony as a wholesale VoIP company is becoming an increasingly popular business model. For many companies, becoming a wholesale VoIP provider hits the sweet spot between profit and market control. Any firm with a well-established customer base is a good candidate for reselling wholesale VoIP.
Becoming a wholesale VoIP reseller is not a decision that should be taken lightly. It does, however, offer the potential of being very lucrative if done right.

Wholesale Consumer Demand:

An important characteristic of the industry is the complex segmentation of consumer demand and rapid change in the characteristics that are being demanded, both at the end customer and in the intermediate ones (wholesale customers).
Demand coming from ‘packed customers'? will be significantly different of the conventional telecommunications one, were telephony was the unique service to provide and differentiation was based on tariff-distance paradigm, being today's service offerings closer to data applications rather than telephony. Voice communication (and not old POT telephony) becomes the common feature into several communications applications and devices, but not the unique one.
Messaging, conference, collaboration, web contact centres, etc … requires a common communication format between parties, which is voice, implemented through VoIP technologies. Heterogeneous and rapidly changing customer demands and products are important dynamic influences on the evolving structure of the telecom industry, resulting into a new value-chain.
Telecommunication markets evolution will be driven by ‘packed customers' demand rather than networks, technology or finance, changing many decades rules into this industry.

Finance in Telecommunication Industry:

Finance institutions had been influencing Telecomm Industry since the beginning, due the business itself was characterized by huge investments, big market shares and bigger capitalization, influencing in many cases top management, who addressed their strategy towards ‘stock' opportunities rather long term and solid business models. WorldCom crash has been an example of this ‘financial market' pressure and wrong business management.
Today, the networks has been deployed. New scenario in Telecoms enable new players to deploy services over broadband without proprietary network and this new generation business will not be anymore capital intensive, let's say these will be innovation intensive.

U.S. VoIP Market:

The US market for VoIP advanced dramatically in 2006-2007, adding 3.8 million VoIP households in 2006, reports In-Stat: As a result, wholesale VoIP revenues grows quickly, as MSOs, Skype, and a myriad of new entrants most lacking network facilities enter the market and drive demand for telephony features and applications, the high-tech market research firm says.
As retail VoIP expands, wholesale VoIP will accelerate quickly, says Bryan Van Dussen, In-Stat analyst. The largest segment remains international VoIP, but we expect the market for local services to surge from 12% of all revenues to 27% by 2010.
Recent research by In-Stat found the following:

  • Consumer VoIP adoption will drive wholesale VoIP revenues to $3.8 billion by 2010 from $1.1 billion in 2006.
  • In-Stat finds small businesses are driving the growth of hosted services in the U.S. Hosted VoIP seats in the U.S. ...

What is VOIP

$
0
0

Introduction

VOIP is an acronym for Voice Over Internet Protocol, or in more common terms phone service over the Internet.
If you have a reasonable quality Internet connection you can get phone service delivered through your Internet connection instead of from your local phone company.

Some people use VOIP in addition to their traditional phone service, since VOIP service providers usually offer lower rates than traditional phone companies, but sometimes doesn't offer 911 service, phone directory listings, 411 service, or other common phone services. While many VoIP providers offer these services, consistent industry-wide means of offering these are still developing.

How does VOIP work?

A way is required to turn analog phone signals into digital signals that can be sent over the Internet.
This function can either be included into the phone itself (See: VOIP Phones) or in a separate box like an ATA .

VOIP Using an ATA

Ordinary Phone ---- ATA ---- Ethernet ---- Router ---- Internet ---- VOIP Service Provider

VOIP using an IP Phone

IP Phone ----- Ethernet ----- Router ---- Internet ---- VOIP Service Provider

VOIP connecting directly

It is also possible to bypass a VOIP Service Provider and directly connect to another VOIP user. However, if the VOIP devices are behind NAT routers, there may be problems with this approach.

IP Phone ----- Ethernet ----- Router ---- Internet ---- Router ---- Ethernet ---- IP Phone

Applications using VOIP

Traditional telephony applications, such as outbound call center applications and inbound IVR applications, normally can be run on VOIP.

Why use VOIP?

There are two major reasons to use VOIP
  • Lower Cost
  • Increased functionality

Lower Cost

In general phone service via VOIP costs less than equivalent service from traditional sources. This is largely a function of traditional phone services either being monopolies or government entities. There are also some cost savings due to using a single network to carry voice and data. This is especially true when users have existing under-utilized network capacity that they can use for VOIP without any additional costs.
In the most extreme case, users see VOIP phone calls (even international) as FREE. While there is a cost for their Internet service, using VOIP over this service may not involve any extra charges, so the users view the calls as free. There are a number of services that have sprung up to facilitate this type of "free" VOIP call. Examples are: Free World Dialup and Skype for a more complete list see: VOIP Service Providers
Friends and family overseas can call you for the lower price of a local call. Switch2Voip offers VoIP phone numbers in cities over 40 countries to add to your Switch2Voip VoIP account.

Increased Functionality

VOIP makes easy some things that are difficult to impossible with traditional phone networks. ...

What Is Virtual PBX?

A virtual PBX is an economy-class version of hosted PBX. Hosted and virtual PBX systems are business VoIP PBX phone systems that transmit calls over the Internet as data.

A virtual PBX offers inexpensive business VoIP telephone service to small businesses. As with a hosted PBX phone systems, a virtual PBX is owned and maintained off-site by a VoIP service provider. A virtual PBX enables a small business telephone system to access enterprise-level features such as auto attendants and voicemail. With virtual PBX small business telephone systems, small start-ups, mom-and-pop shops, freelancers, and entrepreneurs can all present a professional image to vendors, investors, and customers.

Depending on the service provider, a virtual PBX phone system may require a separate phone service for outbound calls.

Virtual PBX Features

Virtual PBX phone systems offer lower costs and fewer features than hosted PBX phone services. Compared to hosted PBX small business telephone systems, virtual PBX service is limited to the most basic fundamentals of business-oriented call controls. Virtual PBX is geared toward simple inbound call-routing for SoHo offices with few personnel, small budgets, and limited calling needs. As with many hosted PBX calling services, most virtual PBX phone systems do not require a contract or term commitment.

Standard features offered with most virtual PBX plans are:

  • Voicemail
  • Auto attendant
  • Unlimited call handling (no busy signals)
  • Call forwarding

Limitations

Virtual PBX phone systems generally:

  • Handle only inbound calls
  • Offer a limited number of extensions
  • May not include Fax over IP (FoIP) services
  • Include a set amount of free minutes
  • May not offer voicemail-to-email
  • May not include international long-distance coverage
  • May not offer Internet fax service
  • May charge extra for conference calling

The features offered vary by virtual PBX VoIP provider. As VoIP service becomes a more common solution for small business telephone systems, many virtual PBX plan features are incorporating the more advanced features of hosted PBX phone systems. Compare plans and prices to determine the best virtual PBX solution.

Cost

Virtual PBX phone prices depend on a variety of factors, such as the features included. Virtual PBX phone service plans can start as low as $9.95 (Grasshopper) per month.

VoIP Termination

Please add information to this page about VoIP call termination.

What is VoIP Termination?

VoIP call termination is used to refer to the procedures that are used for routing telephone calls from one provider to the next provider until the call has been routed to the last telephone company and has been received by the recipient. Voice termination is another term that is used for call termination. The telephone companies are also referred to as providers or carriers.

Called Party

The called party is the person who has received the telephone call. The end point of the route may be on the Internet or may be at a point that was reached by routing the call through the public switched telephone network. The procedures for routing the call stop when the call has been received by the recipient. The process may seem simple to individuals who do not experience problems with making telephone calls but is not so simple to individuals who make calls that will not connect such as calls to a different country.

Calling Party

The calling party is the person who has initiated the call and who wants to be connected to the called party. There may be problems with the telephone calls that begin on the Internet and end at a cellular phone. The sound of the voices may seem to be amplified with echoes and have a scratchy quality. The calls that are initiated with Google Voice may never connect or could be delayed.

VoIP

Voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) is a term that is used to describe a call that was initiated on the Internet such as Skype calls or calls made with Google Voice. The calls that were initiated on the Internet usually end at a point that is not on the Internet. Most of the recipients of telephone calls receive the calls with a landline phone or with a cellular phone. The route may begin on the Internet but will end at a point that was reached by routing the call from the public switched telephone network (PSTN), which is the common description for call termination.

Internet Networks

A tier-one operator is licensed and registered to operate an Internet protocol (IP) network for Internet telephony services. Tier-one operators can handle call origination and call termination. A tier-two operator can lease services from a tier-one operator. The tier-three operators can lease services from either a tier-one or two-two operator. There are also resellers of VoIP services and wholesalers in the market. The quality of the services is not very high because of the inconsistencies in the market such as fluctuations with demand, fraud and problems with doing business on an international level.

Call Origination

Call origination is used to refer to telephone calls that originate from the public switched telephone network and end the route on the Internet. Call termination is considered to be the opposite of call origination because the direction of the paths are reversed. The terms are associated with the starting point of the calls, path of the route of the calls and termination point of the calls. The operators of IP telephony services can handle calls that originate or terminate on the Internet.

Fees

The fees for services are subject to the regulations of several countries because the routes of the calls will cross over more than one country. Those countries can use legislation to control the fees for the services. Termination rates are usually very high for the countries in the Middle East and Asia. The rates are intentional high because there are more incoming calls than outgoing calls from the countries, which is caused by the diaspora effect of a migrating population.
